Verdict

York City have been a National League North outfit for five seasons but they can clinch a return to the National League with a home win over Boston in the playoff final.

Both teams had to win two games to reach the final and Boston's path, which required them to play away to fourth-placed Kidderminster and third-placed Fylde, was the most difficult.

Paul Cox's Boston upset the odds with wins at Kiddy and Fylde, but their trip to the York Community Stadium may be a step too far.

The season has been a slow-burner for York, who were 15th at the end of January, but they had climbed to fifth by the end of the campaign and approach the playoff final full of confidence after winning five of their last six fixtures.

Over 6,000 fans watched York begin their playoff campaign with a 2-1 victory over Chorley and another large crowd can help them get over the line against Boston.

Dorking Wanderers missed out on the National League South title despite scoring 101 goals – 21 more than champions Maidstone – but they can clinch promotion with a home win over Ebbsfleet in the playoff final.

Ebbsfleet needed extra-time to record a 1-0 win over seventh-placed Chippenham in their playoff semi-final, but they face a step up in class against Dorking, who won 17 of their 20 home league games this season.
