Nations League preview

The Netherlands are in pole position in Group A4 going into the final round of fixtures and the Dutch can seal their place in the National League finals in style.

Louis van Gaal is a top international manager and the former Manchester United boss has guided the Oranje to 13 points from their five games - three ahead of second-placed opponents Belgium.

The Netherlands' sole blip was a 2-2 draw at home to Poland, against whom the Dutch won the shot count 17-5 and the corner count 6-1, and they were unfortunate not to record another victory.

Van Gaal’s side made amends for that mishap with an impressive 2-0 win in Warsaw on Thursday, when a front three of Memphis Depay, Steven Bergwijn and Cody Gakpo caused the Poles plenty of problems.

The Oranje thumped Belgium 4-1 in June's reverse fixture and if the Red Devils push on in an attempt to knock the Dutch off their perch, a lightning-quick Netherlands forward line could pick them off.

Elsewhere, Group A1 leaders Croatia look good value to secure their spot in the finals with victory in Austria.

Ralf Rangnick’s Austrians have been outclassed in a tough section containing the Croats, world champions France and Euros semi-finalists Denmark, and they were given the runaround in Paris on Thursday.

Austria failed to register a single shot on target at the Stade de France and conceded 22 efforts on their own goal.

Croatia have gone through a period of change, but they are still a top side and showed that when winning in France in June.
