Northern Ireland recorded their first Nations League victory against Kosovo on Saturday and now the Green and White Army are aiming to hold on to their League C status.

Ian Baraclough’s men travel to Athens to face Greece knowing that they have to match or better the result of Cyprus to avoid the drop.

Josh Magennis headed in Northern Ireland’s 93rd-minute winner at Windsor Park on Saturday, and although it was a late show, the Green and White Army put in a spirited display and managed 17 attempts on the Kosovo goal.

Greece have enjoyed an excellent Nations League campaign, winning four of their five matches and they look a side on the rise under Gus Poyet. Northern Ireland face a tougher task in Athens than they did at the weekend, but the Greeks were surprisingly sunk by Cyprus on Saturday and perhaps their level has slipped a little given they are already assured of promotion come Tuesday night.

Poyet’s men ran out 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture at Windsor Park in June. That clash featured just four shots on target from both sides combined and another low-scoring contest looks likely at the Georgios Kamaras Stadium.
