England's chances of qualifying for the European Under-21 Championship knockout stages are hanging by a thread after defeats to Switzerland (1-0) and Portugal (2-0) and any vestige of hope could be killed off by a draw against Croatia in Koper.

Failing to deliver on the big stage is becoming a habit for the Young Lions, who picked up just one point at the 2019 tournament when they drew 3-3 with Croatia in their final game.

On that occasion England and Croatia had both lost their opening two games, but there is as different dynamic this time with Croatia heading into their final match in second place in Group D.

There is a mathematical chance for England, who need to win by at least two goals and keep their fingers crossed for a Portuguese success over third-placed Switzerland.

And Aidy Boothroyd's side are boosted by the return to fitness of Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who sat out Sunday's dismal loss to Portugal with a shoulder injury.

However, England have looked toothless, registering just one shot on target, and it is hard to imagine them being suddenly transformed into a free-scoring side.

It is win or bust for England but a point could be enough for Croatia and the stalemate looks the more likely outcome.
