Match preview

After the news of Virgil van Dijk’s injury and their recent poor form, Liverpool fans will need something to brighten their spirits and they may get it in the shape of new signing Cody Gakpo.

The Dutchman looks likely to make his debut for the Reds after registration issues have meant that this game against Wolves is the first that he is available for.

The 23-year-old has already registered 12 assists and nine goals in 14 Eredivisie games for PSV this season and chipped in with three goals for his country at the World Cup.

If, as looks likely, Gakpo slots straight into the Liverpool front three, it would not be beyond him to have an immediate impact.

Given his nature as a dual attacking threat, the 8-5 for Gakpo to score and the 3-1 for him to register an assist, both available with bet365, are of interest as the Dutchman looks to introduce himself to Reds fans in style.

A key element of Newcastle’s success this season has been the attacking runs of their number eights, predominantly Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff, either side of playmaker Bruno Guimaraes.

Longstaff’s off-the-ball movement has been a key factor in Miguel Almiron’s success, as he often drags defenders out of position, opening up space for the right forward to attack.

Longstaff has already scored this season and due to his high fitness level and the limited central midfield options for the Magpies, is likely to start against Sheffield Wednesday.

The 24-year-old has registered his highest expected goals tally ever this season and is a decent price at 7-1 to get on the scoresheet against League One opponents.

There has not been much to cheer about for Southampton this season and they will be hoping for something in their early kick-off against Crystal Palace.

Adam Armstrong has found his chances limited this season but usually features heavily in cup games and the forward is known for his frequent attempts at goal.

The 25-year-old averaged three shots a game last season in the Premier League and while his numbers have taken a hit this campaign, the 7-4 with bet365 about him having three or more shots against the Eagles makes plenty of appeal.
