Match preview

Nottingham Forest have claimed Premier League scalps in the previous two rounds of the FA Cup but that doesn’t mean the Tricky Trees should be taking the challenge of Huddersfield lightly.

Forest followed up a 1-0 win at home to Arsenal in the third round with a 4-1 rout of East Midlands rivals Leicester, and also have the benefit of playing at the City Ground against Huddersfield.

However, unlike those two wins over top-flight opponents, Forest will be expected to control the tempo of the game and dominate possession.

Steve Cooper’s arrival as manager has triggered an upturn in results, with Forest having lost only four of their 28 games in all competitions under his care.

But one of those defeats came at home to Huddersfield in the Championship at the end of December, when a Duane Holmes strike provided the Terriers with a hard-fought 1-0 win.

Since that victory, Huddersfield have gone from strength to strength and Friday’s 3-0 victory over Peterborough saw them rise up to second in the Championship standings.

In fact, the Terriers find themselves unbeaten in 18 games - a sequence stretching back to November - and they have been particularly difficult to breach having recorded six clean sheets in their last eight outings.

Their manager Carlos Corberan has adopted similar tactics to former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, who he worked under at Elland Road, replicating an intense approach which has helped bring the best out of his team.

As well as winning at Forest, Huddersfield’s purple patch has featured away wins at Championship leaders Fulham and Burnley in the FA Cup and their style of play is well-suited to coming up against strong opposition on the road.

Forest have plenty of weapons to hurt the Yorkshire visitors, most notably the pace of well-touted youngster Brennan Johnson.

But while Huddersfield had an easy time of things against Posh on Friday, the Tricky Trees were involved in a gruelling battle with Sheffield United (1-1) at Bramall Lane and this is a quick turnaround.

A quarter-final home tie with Liverpool is the reward for the winner and at the prices it is the Terriers who appeal most to qualify.

Key stat

Huddersfield have won each of their last four matches.
