League Two strugglers Gillingham needed an injury-time leveller to escape with a 1-1 draw from their FA Cup second-round clash at National League Dagenham & Redbridge, and they look set to face disappointment in the replay.

The Gills are second from bottom in the fourth tier having won two of 20 games and they were second best for much of their opening encounter against the Daggers, losing the shot count 22 to ten.

Gillingham's plans for January will not include former head of recruitment Nicky Shorey, who left the club on Tuesday, but for now they must box on with the players responsible for failing on a fairly consistent basis.

Dagenham & Redbridge lost 1-0 at home to struggling Torquay at the weekend, although they are likely to have had one eye on this replay against Gillingham which offers the incentive of a third-round tie at home to Premier League Leicester.
