Weekend preview

Athletic Bilbao v Real Valladolid

Premier 1, 5.30pm

Athletic Bilbao have gone off the boil in La Liga but Gaizka Garitano's side can stabilise their season against minnows Valladolid.

The Basque side have only one win in their last five matches but three of those have been on the road and they are a different beast at their San Mames home - just ask Barcelona, who they sank 1-0 on the opening night of the season.

They have shipped only once at home in the league this term and can rest easy knowing Valladolid's attack is spearheaded by misfiring Everton loanee Sandro Ramirez and Sergi Guardiola, who has disappointed since signing from Cordoba.

It should only take one or two goals to get the job done and a whirlwind front three of Iker Muniain, Inaki Williams and Inigo Cordoba can rip through Valladolid's rearguard.

Hoffenheim v Schalke

BT Sport 2, 5pm

The post-Julian Nagelsmann era is in full swing at Hoffenheim and, after a stuttering start, the club from Baden-Wurttemberg can use their 2-1 defeat of Bayern Munich as a springboard for positive results.

Alfred Schreuder's men have been handed a huge boost this week with last season's top scorer Andrej Kramaric, who scored 17 Bundesliga goals last term but has not played this campaign, back from injury.

Despite being sidelined for three months, the forward could be fast-tracked into the starting lineup to combat Hoffenheim's issues in front of goal.

Schalke, meanwhile, may be without midfielder Suat Serdar, who is crucial to their attacking play, and they could be worth opposing after drawing with lowly Cologne before the international break.

Udinese v Torino

2pm

Igor Tudor's gameplan at Udinese this season has been built around a sturdy defence but Torino should have the attacking utensils to work their way through.

Andrea Belotti operates at the forefront of the Turin club's 3-4-2-1 system and has reaped the rewards with five Serie A goals to his name this term.

The forward also got on the scoresheet in both legs of Torino's Europa League playoff against Wolves in August and he bagged a brace in Italy's 5-0 demolition of Liechtenstein on Tuesday.

He looks overpriced at 5-1 to open the scoring against opponents lacking a recognised goalscorer.

Bordeaux v St-Etienne

BT Sport ESPN, 2pm

Claude Puel could not have asked for a better start to life as St-Etienne manager after Robert Beric's 90th-minute strike helped them to a 1-0 win in Le Derby before the international break.

But it is worth noting their opponents on that occasion, bitter rivals Lyon, were going through a tricky spell themselves and Bordeaux are a far more settled unit.

The hosts have won three of their last five assignments and pushed Paris Saint-Germain close in a 1-0 defeat during that run.

They are conceding goals but have the attacking players to compensate with Nicolas de Preville, Ui-Jo Hwang and Jimmy Briand netting recently. They are value against Les Verts, who have lost to weak opponents such as Metz and Gent this season.
