Tournament winner

Morocco

Hosts Egypt, equipped with one of the game’s deadliest finishers in Mohamed Salah, are unsurprisingly the favourites. They won the Africa Cup of Nations the last time they hosted it in 2006 and have not lost to African opposition on home soil in nearly five years. But better value is to be had elsewhere with Morocco the pick of the prices.

Morocco manager Herve Renard knows anything is possible in the competition and the two-time winner has a well-balanced squad at his disposal.

Hakim Ziyech sparkled on the Champions League stage for Ajax and, linked with a move away this summer, he will be keen to put on a show for his suitors.

Top goalscorer

Odion Ighalo

Sadio Mane and Salah are obvious choices but Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo, who was top scorer in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying with seven goals, could fill his boots in group assignments with debutants Madagascar and Burundi.

Group tip

Senegal to win Group C

Senegal's midfield is dominated by hard workers including Idrissa Gueye, while Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly is the bedrock of their defence and Mane can work his magic in the final third.

They should comfortably top Group C ahead of Algeria, who limped through a weak section in qualifying. Kenya and Tanzania are set to be outclassed.
