Wednesday betting preview

The penultimate day of group matches at the Africa Cup of Nations involves the four teams in Group D with Mohamed Salah's Egypt requiring a point from their clash with Sudan to secure qualification and Nigeria, who are already through, looking to maintain their 100 per cent record when they play Guinea-Bissau.

Egypt v Sudan

Sky Sports Mix, 7pm

Both of Egypt's first two matches at this year's Africa Cup of Nations have been tentative affairs with the Pharaohs losing 1-0 to Nigeria before beating Guinea-Bissau by the same scoreline.

But while they only need to avoid defeat in their final group fixture to reach the last 16, Sudan have to go for the win if they are to be in the mix and that could make for a more open affair.

Sudan were carved apart by Nigeria in Garoua last time out, allowing their opponents 17 shots in a game they lost 3-1, and it could be a similar story against Egypt, particularly with a need to attack leaving them vulnerable at the back. Over 2.5 goals makes plenty of appeal.

Guinea-Bissau v Nigeria

Sky Sports Premier League, 7pm

Uncertainty surrounding Nigeria's team selection for their clash with Guinea-Bissau means that the best value bets could be found in the goalscorer markets.

With wins over Egypt and Sudan under their belt, Nigeria are already through to the knockout stage and manager Augustine Eguavoen must now choose whether to rest players or start the same group who have been churning out results.

One player who should still be involved regardless is Union Berlin forward Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi was on Liverpool's books as a youngster and was likened to Nigeria's all-time top goalscorer Rashidi Yekini in the early stages of his career.

He had previously struggled to live up to the hype but he got off the mark with a goal against Sudan last time out and has managed nine shots in his team's first two matches at Afcon. At odds-against, he is worth a bet to find the net against Guinea-Bissau.
