Algeria v Guinea

8pm

Algeria impressed as much as any other team during the Africa Cup of Nations group stage and they should chalk up a victory over Guinea in Cairo.

The Desert Foxes have underperformed at recent major tournaments but look a well-organised team this summer and were worthy 1-0 winners against Senegal in one of the most intriguing matches of the group stage.

Playing at that level Algeria will be tough to stop and they should certainly be too strong for Guinea, whose only group success was a 2-0 win over Burundi, the lowest-ranked team in the tournament.

Recommendation
Algeria
1pt 3-4 Sky Bet

Key stat
Algeria are unbeaten in their last seven games.

Madagascar v DR Congo

5pm

Madagascar have made a positive impression at their first Africa Cup of Nations, taking seven points from nine in Group B, and they should be competitive against DR Congo in the round of 16.

DR Congo finished off their Group A campaign with a 4-0 success over Zimbabwe but were poor in the opening two matches, losing 2-0 to Uganda and Egypt.

They appear to have regressed since reaching the quarter-finals in 2017 and may be taken to extra-time by the underrated Madagascans, who confounded expectations by topping Group B.

Recommendation
Draw
1pt 21-10 general

Key stat
DR Congo have won just two of their last 12 fixtures.
