Algeria v Nigeria

8pm

Algeria have played as well as anyone at the Africa Cup of Nations and are the likelier winners of their heavyweight semi-final against Nigeria at the Cairo International Stadium.

Since appointing Djamel Belmadi as manager in November 2018 Algeria have gone 11 matches unbeaten.

The Desert Foxes have had a tough draw but have risen to every challenge and not had to rely heavily on star man Riyad Mahrez, who has netted just two of their ten goals.

They were worthy 1-0 winners against Senegal in the group stage and were the better side in their quarter-final against Ivory Coast which finished 1-1 and was decided on a penalty shootout (4-3 in Algeria's favour).

Nigeria were in an easier group but finished second to Madagascar, who defeated them 2-0 in Alexandria.

Gernot Rohr's side registered knockout stages against Cameroon (3-2) and South Africa (2-1) despite having less of the ball on both occasions, but their general standard of play has been underwhelming.

Jon Obi Mikel is expected to return from an unspecified injury, boosting Rohr's midfield options, but it may not be enough for them to overcome Algeria, who are strong in all departments.
