Red Star have struggled to adapt to life in Ligue 2 following their promotion as champions from the Championnat National and they could have little to cheer about when they welcome lively Lens to the French capital.

After 19 games, Red Star are bottom of the pile with just 13 points to show for their efforts.

At the midpoint of the campaign, the hosts are already seven points from safety and a lack of creativity in the final third – they have netted only 13 league goals – has seen them win just three times all season.

Defensively things aren’t much healthier for Vladan Milojevic’s men. Red Star boast the joint-worst defence in the division having leaked 32 goals this season, and have conceded three or more goals in five of their ten home games.

Lens certainly have the attacking assets to punish those frailties.

The visitors suffered a shock 2-1 reverse at home to Ajaccio last time out but prior to that they had recorded draws at Lorient and Clermont, who are fourth and sixth respectively, and they should see this as a perfect opportunity to reignite their promotion push.

Lens, who went into the weekend occupying the final playoff place in fifth, possess a potent weapon in nine-goal striker Arthur Gomis and he is a key figure for the visitors.

He has linked up to good effect with youngsters Thierry Ambrose and Mounir Chouiar and relegation-threatened Red Star simply can’t call upon the same service.
