Preview

Wout van Aert continued Team Jumbo-Visma's sensational Tour de France by taking his second win of the race into Lavaur.

On another sweltering day, Peter Sagan and Bora-Hansgrohe set a relentless early pace to leave the green jersey Sam Bennett behind, before crosswinds tore through the lead group coming out of Castres.

Although there was another 40km to go, the damage was done and with the majority of the general classification candidates who made the split happy to roll in, Van Aert took the sprint.

He'll be back on domestique duty on stage eight as the peloton head into the Pyrenees, beginning the day in Cazeres-sur-Garonne and finishing in Loudenvielle.

A classic Pyrenean stage, the 141km route features two category-one climbs, the Col de Mente and the Col de Peyresourde, either side of the hors-category Port de Bales.

It's a day that suits the climbers but descending skills will also be vital and having lost time on stage seven, UAE Team Emirates' Tadej Pogacar needs to respond.

The 21-year-old is making his debut in the Tour de France but he has genuine pedigree having won three stages on his way to finishing third in last year's Vuelta a Espana and this stage suits his attacking style.
