Preview

Former world champion Mads Pedersen was the man on Friday, beating Britain's Fred Wright in a sprint as the Tour de France made its almost customary stop-off in Saint-Etienne.

The same city hosts Saturday's start as the peloton tackles 192.5km to Mende. Stage 14 is anything but fun and with flatter days on either side, it feels a bit of a sucker punch after a tough week.

There's climbing from start to finish on a route that will excite the adventurous and terrify the fatigued. Expect attacks from the off and keep an eye on handy climbers who lost time in the high Alps.

Having fallen from second in the GC to almost an hour off the pace, Lennard Kamna fits that bill and has twice gone close to winning stages this year.

The German should have no issues tackling the closing Cote de la Croix Neuve, a wall-like climb that touches ten per cent in patches before flattening out and concluding on the runway of Mende Airfield.

Kamna won on an airfield in Megeve at the 2020 Dauphine and went close to doing so again at the same venue on Tuesday.

Look out too for Matej Mohoric, who won two stages last year. The Slovenian is often overshadowed by compatriot Tadej Pogacar but showed he loves a lumpy route by winning March's Milan-San Remo and his Tour to date suggests he has been waiting for days like this.
