Stage 11 preview

Mark Cavendish delivered again on Tuesday as he took his third stage win of the 2021 Tour de France.

After being delivered to the closing sprint in Valence by his Deceuninck–Quick-Step team, Cavendish confidently took his 33rd career Tour victory to further boost his chances of defending the green jersey all the way to Paris.

The race continues south on Wednesday and makes history as the peloton climbs Mont Ventoux twice in a single stage for the first time.

As difficult as the climbing will be, the winner will also need to be a fine descender. The final 22km into Malaucene is all downhill and the weather could play its part too.

Much like the opening stage, the day seems set for Cavendish's colleague Julian Alaphilippe. Both he and Miguel Angel Lopez, who recently set the best time for climbing Mont Ventoux since 2004, are well down on the general classification and have the attributes to conquer a gruelling stage.
