Mike Teunissen held on to the yellow jersey after the second stage of the Tour de France as his Jumbo-Visma team powered to team time trial victory.

Dutchman Teunissen was the 250-1 winner of Saturday's stage and then reinforced his position after his team went out last in the time trial and knocked a full 20 seconds off the time set by leaders Team Ineos.

The peloton head into France for the first time on day three, heading south from Belgium over a 215km flattish stretch which ends with four short, punchy climbs.

The finish, which includes a 900-metre climb up Côte d’Hautvillers at 10.5 per cent and another 900 metres up Côte de Champillon at 12.2 per cent, is likely to eliminate the pure sprinters from the final mix, while the leading GC contenders will probably be happy to just stay out of trouble.

It's a stage that could play into the hands of Julian Alaphilippe, who revels in these short climbs and has the legs to kick on at the end of a long ride.

He is second in the betting behind Peter Sagan, who was pipped to the sprint finish by Teunissen on stage one, but Alaphilippe looks far better value at twice the price.

The market leaders look well placed to be in the thick of the battle by the end as any breaks are likely to have to work hard to maintain distance over the hilly finale.
