Preview

Favourite Fabio Jakobsen claimed a maiden Tour de France stage victory with a perfectly timed challenge at the end of stage two in Nyborg.

The Dutchman suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash in the 2020 Tour de Pologne but came back to win the points classification in the 2021 Vuelta a Espana and has been the man to beat in sprints this year.

Jakobsen got up on the line to deny Wout van Aert, but the consolation for the Belgian is that he will wear the yellow jersey for Sunday's stage, the last in Denmark.

There was a pile-up back in the peloton with just over two kilometres to go, and odds-on general classification favourite Tadej Pogacar finished the stage with two punctured tyres, but as the incident occurred inside the last three kilometres the GC contenders will not lose any time.

Unlike Saturday's coastal route, stage three is an inland trek down the Jutland peninsula and should set up for the pure sprinters.
Jakobsen is favourite to follow up but at the prices preference is for the man adjudged to have caused the accident in Poland, Dylan Groenewegen.

The 29-year-old was given a nine-month ban for sparking the crash that left Jakobsen at death's door and is appearing at the Tour de France for the first time since 2019.

He is a four-time individual stage winner on the Tour though, and already has five wins for his new Australian BikeExchange-Jayco team, which he joined in December. The team have built their Tour around Groenewegen and fellow sprinter Michael Matthews, but have made it clear that the Dutchman will be given a full lead-out train in the pure sprints.
