Stage 18 preview

On Wednesday's queen stage Tadej Pogacar underlined his status as Tour de France king with victory atop the Col du Portet.

Pogacar, who is now 1-50 to retain the yellow jersey, beat general-classification rivals Jonas Vingegaard and Richard Carapaz in a sprint to line, adding another handful of seconds to his already commanding advantage at the top of the overall standings.

Rigoberto Uran was the biggest loser as he tumbled down from second to fourth after losing 1min 49secs to stage winner Pogacar.

Just one mountain test now stands in the way of the Slovenian and a second successive yellow jersey and it also the last real obstacle between Mark Cavendish and making it to Paris.

The Manx Missile has a 36-point buffer over Michael Matthews in the points classification and is now 1-7 from 2-5 to win the green jersey but will first have to negotiate the 129.7km from Pau to Luz Ardiden.

Two more super-category ascents feature on the route which ends with another summit finish.
