Stage 15 Preview

Saturday's stage 14 at the Tour de France always looked likely to be a day for the breakaway experts and Bauke Mollema took advantage to solo home in Quillan.

The Trek-Segafredo man found himself in a strong group of riders chasing the victory but made his move with 42km to go and couldn't be caught.

With a rest day on Monday, Sunday's stage 15 promises fireworks in the general classification but the closing 11.2km descent into Andorra la Vella should again suit the breakaway.

The 191.3km route includes the highest point of the 2021 Tour, the Port d'Envalira, but the climb is unlikely to create significant gaps and the GC shake-up may have to wait until the closing Col de Beixalis.

With that going on behind, 2014 Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali, one of the great descenders of his era, may well be inspired to emulate his teammate Mollema's triumph, sparking a potential double for himself and his beloved Azzurri.
