Match preview

Cameroon are in the bizarre situation of kicking off a qualifying campaign with qualification already safely assured when they meet Cape Verde on Wednesday.

The Indomitable Lions will host the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, so could lose all six of their Group F games and still line up on home soil. That is good news for a team who haven't won a World Cup finals match since 2002 and won just one game at the 2019 Cup of Nations.

The situation is also of benefit to Cape Verde, Mozambique and Rwanda, who lack quality - none of them having won more than one Afcon finals match - but now see an easy route through to the 2021 showpiece with two slots to share between three.

Cape Verde will be keen to capitalise against out-of-form Cameroon, but after failing to score in four of their six 2019 qualifiers - firing blanks against Lesotho, Tanzania and Uganda - the Atlantic Ocean side are hard to trust. Backing under 2.5 goals makes the most appeal, even at short prices, with both sides struggling to find the net.

Key stat

Three of Cameroon's last four matches have ended goalless.
