What racegoers on the train to York have to say about superstar mare Enable
Racing Post reporter Andrew Wilsher took the train from King's Cross to York on Thursday and asked racegoers for their thoughts on the brilliant Enable, who has her final start in Britain before a tilt at a third Arc. Here's what they had to say . . .
She’s just remarkable, isn’t she? She's a real icon and I don’t think this season would’ve been anywhere near as good without her. It’s great to be able to say I was there when she ran her last ever race in England and although I won’t be backing her, I hope she gets the send-off she deserves.
Favourite moment That King George win over Crystal Ocean was something else. I wouldn’t mind something like that again today.
David Lowe 46, from Kensington, London
One word – legend. People like to compare her to Frankel but I don’t like that, they’re different types of horses. The stats speak for themselves and I don’t think anyone can argue she’s a horse of a lifetime.
Favourite moment That Arc last year was everything you want in a race.
Will Davies 35, from Tower Hamlets, London
It’ll be great to see her in person, but a shame that it’s unlikely to be too competitive as it’s only Aidan O’Brien that’s gone to take her on. She’s quality though and she’ll be missed when she’s gone.
Favourite moment From such a great career it's hard to pick one!
Scott Macleod 47, from Corby, Northamptonshire
I love her so dearly not because in my eyes she's the best I've seen but because she's consistently proven herself to all the sceptics that she's every bit as good as the greats. Every single start she's had to go out and prove to everyone she deserves to be there.
Favourite moment Seeing her in the flesh for the first time at Kempton on her comeback from injury. I've never seen a horse like her. She's good, and she knows she's good, and she's so elegant.
Raminta Montrimaviciute 27, from Romford
And what they are saying on Twitter . . .
