3.40 Salisbury
Shadwell Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes (Group 3) | 6f, 2yo fillies | RTV

Why is it interesting?

Classic clues could be revealed in this intriguing Group 3 featuring exciting prospects from top yards.

Summer Romance was the ante-post favourite for the 1,000 Guineas after recording back-to-back wins in emphatic fashion, but the Godolphin filly disappointed in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot when finishing only sixth having been sent off at 4-5.

She renews rivalry with Dark Lady (fourth), Good Vibes (fifth) and So Sharp (seventh).

The race also features impressive debut winners Dear Power and Final Option, while Jessica Harrington, who has enjoyed a fine season with her two-year-old fillies, runs Millisle.

What the stats say

Richard Hannon has often gone close in this race and has a record of 3142524. His only winner, Anna Nerium, scored in 2017. He runs Dark Lady and Kemble this time.

Roger Varian has a 24 per cent strike-rate with his juvenile runners at Salisbury and he runs Dear Power here.

What the trainers say

Richard Hannon, trainer of Dark Lady and Kemble
She ran very well at Goodwood last time and I would like to think she will run very well here. She has plenty of speed and is well able to come back in trip. Kemble ran very well in France, but the last time we ran her at York she looked like she wanted six furlongs. Any rain won't upset her.

Roger Varian, trainer of Dear Power
She is a talented filly but ideally we would've liked to get another run into her before stepping into a race like this. She does lack a bit of experience but she won't be out of place in this race. She has not got the kindest of draws but she should run well.

Tom Dascombe, trainer of Dr Simpson
We are stepping up in trip but it shouldn't be a problem. It would be nice if she could finish in the first three in a Group race – there are a few nice horses against her but it is not out of the question. I am looking forward to running her.

Charlie Appleby, trainer of Summer Romance
We were happy to put a line through Summer Romance's run at Ascot due to the ground and the way the race worked out. She came out of that race well and has had a nice little break in the meantime. A repeat performance of her win in the Empress Stakes should put her bang there.

What do our tipsters say?

Spotlight: Paul Smith
Summer Romance will be hard to beat if returning to the level she showed at Newmarket on her second start but that is likely to be reflected in her price and she was beaten at odds-on at Ascot last time. Irish raider Millisle could progress further for this first crack at 6f and is feared, while Good Vibes ran well in the Lowther and a repeat of that will see her bang there. The one to beat may be Dark Lady though, with Richard Hannon's filly having improved with each start, and the way she travelled through the race at Goodwood last time suggests this step back in trip is the way to go.
