If you build it they will come, so the saying goes. Ascot has built it and Joao Moreira has finally come. Ryan Moore and Frankie Dettori are otherwise engaged but a rider many in Brazil, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and Japan hold in just as high regard is at Ascot and will almost certainly shine at some point this afternoon.

But Ascot is not the only show in town. There is Group action at Cork, Haydock and Newmarket and also meetings at Redcar and Chelmsford, while the racing comes from Ayr, Kilbeggan and Lingfield this evening.

Final thought

The Shergar Cup is a unique competition and Fran Berry is a deserving favourite to defend his Silver Saddle given he has an excellent book of rides. Four of his five mounts are 8-1 or shorter and no-one else involved has that depth of opportunities – Holly Doyle has one 7-1 shot and all her other mounts are at double-figure prices. In terms of depth, don't ignore Hayley Turner, she may not have any favourites but four of her rides are 9-1 or shorter.
