'She makes a jockey's life easy' - Light Lily strikes for in-form Daniel Muscutt
Sunday: Southwell
In-form jockey Daniel Muscutt's flying start to 2022 following a career-best year showed no signs of stopping as he guided Light Lily to a game success in the 7f handicap.
Muscutt enjoyed 84 winners last year and has taken that form into 2022 by landing his seventh win of the month aboard the John Butler-trained five-year-old, who held off the challenge of 50-1 shot Last Date to win by half a length.
"Everything's going really well at the moment and I'll keep batting away to get more winners," Muscutt told Sky Sports Racing.
"She won here on the old surface and put up a good performance the last time she was here. She's very versatile so the seven-furlong trip didn't faze her. She's sharp and makes a jockey's life very easy, she never stops galloping."
Light Lily's victory also gave the Newmarket-based Butler a fourth winner of the year from just 16 runners saddled.
Red-hot Ross
Ross Coakley also continued his amazing new year run when he notched his seventh winner this month aboard Airshow in the concluding 6f handicap.
The short-head victory of the Rod Millman-trained seven-year-old enhanced Coakley's strike-rate to a staggering 54 per cent, with success coming from just 13 rides in the last two weeks.
Lucky Lady
Lady Lou caused a mammoth 80-1 shock when she landed the 7f handicap by half a length under Callum Rodriguez for trainer Michael Dods.
