Seahenge sweeps aside rivals to strike under Donnacha O'Brien
Seahenge ran down his rivals under a cool ride from Donnacha O'Brien to win the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, in the process giving a boost to his Goodwood conqueror and Qipco 2,000 Guineas favourite Expert Eye
Seahenge, sent off at 8-1 on the back of finishing fifth to Expert Eye, overhauled the front-running Hey Gaman to register a neck success, with 9-4 favourite Mythical Magic close up in third.
How the race was won
Hey Gaman led the four racing nearer the stands' rail as O'Brien settled Seahenge last behind his stablemate Mendelssohn, who was seemingly the choice of Ryan Moore.
The picture changed dramatically in the final two furlongs, with Mendelssohn dropping away - to finish last - as Seahenge burst between rivals and threw down a strong challenge.
Hey Gaman and Mythical Magic held every chance with a furlong to run but couldn't fend off Seahenge.
The winning rider said: "When we got to two furlongs out I thought I would get there."
Paddy Power gave Seahenge a 25-1 quote for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas, with Expert Eye the 4-1 favourite.
