Rose Of Arcadia ends drought for Colin Tizzard with first winner of the year
Rose Of Arcadia brought a 44-day winless run to an end for trainer Colin Tizzard with a brave success in the 2m5½f mares' novice hurdle.
The six-year-old, owned by Cheveley Park Stud, held off a spirited late challenge from Fable to win by a neck under Jonjo O'Neill Jr.
"That's our first winner since before Christmas and it's been tough," said assistant trainer Joe Tizzard. "We've had to change a few things and one or two were under the weather.
"We seem to have them right at home, but heavy ground exaggerates everything a little bit. During the last two weeks they've all been running well and hopefully we can have a strong end to the season."
O'Neill jr recorded a double on the card when Time To Get Up belied his inexperience to land the 3m1f handicap chase.
Sent off at 10-1, Time To Get Up produced a powerful leap at the penultimate flight and stayed on gamely to win by five lengths.
"He's was a bit green out in front but he's a lovely, big chaser," said the winning jockey after celebrating his 50th winner of the season.
Demolition job
Luck played no part as Lucky One demolished his 17 rivals to canter home by 20 lengths in the 1m7½f novice hurdle.
The six-year-old benefited from a clever ride by Harry Cobden and, speaking after the race, his trainer Paul Nicholls suggested he could become an "awesome chaser" next season.
Cobden and Nicholls struck again in the 3m1f hunter chase with Sametegal, who was winning for the first time since March 2016.
