Romans eyes Badger Beers or Ladbrokes Trophy with 'perfect' Storm Home
They say good things come to those who wait and that certainly is the case for owner John Romans after watching his Summer Cup scorer Storm Home make it back-to-back wins in the feature 3m2f handicap chase.
Ridden by Harry Cobden, with last month’s winning rider Brendan Powell out injured after a nasty fall at the track earlier this month, the nine-year-old comfortably defied a 10lb hike to win by seven and a half lengths for Colin Tizzard.
Romans said: "I’ve always been very fond of Storm Home and it’s always nice to give them another chance. I thought he might have struggled a bit with the extra weight but he was perfect wasn’t he? We were in the winner's enclosure and he wasn’t blowing at all, it was like he had just finished a gymkhana really!"
Winning assistant trainer Joe Tizzard said on Sky Sports Racing: "He was borderline being moved on 18 months ago, but John stuck with him and we’re getting our rewards now."
As for future targets for Storm Home, who had been winless for three years prior to last month, Romans said: "I normally leave it to Joe and Colin but The Badger Beers [at Wincanton] could be his sort of race or maybe even the Ladbrokes Trophy."
Back to form
Back On The Lash finished 42 lengths behind Storm Home in seventh in the Summer Cup last time out but returned to winning ways in the 2m6½f novice handicap chase.
The Martin Keighley-trained seven-year-old was winning at the course for the second time this season and has a perfect 3-3 record when partnered by Sean Bowen.
