One-eyed Giovanni Change delivers on novice hurdle promise for Walford
Giovanni Change may only have one eye but it does not stop him winning, as he showed in the 2m4½f handicap hurdle.
The Mark Walford-trained six-year-old was blind in his left eye and had it removed once joining the yard.
Jamie Hamilton's mount built on his novice hurdle promise to score for the first time for connections.
Walford said: "We knew he was blind in one eye when we bought him and we had it removed as it was uncomfortable for him.
"It doesn’t impact him at all really, he's very highly strung but that's just his nature. We train him normally and he lives out in the paddock, which keeps him relaxed.
"We've always thought he's a really nice horse. He has some good novice hurdle form and hopefully we can win a nice race with him."
Extending the lead
Reigning champion Brian Hughes moved three clear of Harry Skelton in the jump jockeys' championship with victories on the Donald McCain-trained Armattiekan in the 2m1f handicap chase and the Nicky Richards-trained Sauce Of Life in the bumper.
Paddy Power shortened the title odds on Hughes, who has three rides at Chepstow on Monday, to evens (from 11-8) with Harry Skelton, in action at Plumpton with six rides, drifting to 8-11 favourite (from 8-15).
Brilliant Bowens
Peter Bowen continued his fantastic form with a fifth winner from his last 12 runners courtesy of Equus Dancer in the novice handicap chase.
Bowen's son James is on a similarly good run as the Roddy Owen-owned chaser was his eighth winner from 27 rides in the past fortnight.
Memorable result
Amber Jackson-Fennell celebrated her first winner on Eureu Du Boulay in the amateur riders' handicap chase.
She made all on the Richard Hobson-trained seven-year-old, having finished third and fourth on her first two mounts.
