O'Keeffe shows magic touch again as Poseidon spears valuable prize

It was another weekend of valuable handicap chase success for Sean O'Keeffe as the talented 22-year-old rider won the feature event on the Charles Byrnes-trained Poseidon.

Fresh from landing the previous Sunday's Munster National, the Cheltenham Festival-winning rider plundered another €40,000 prize on the useful seven-year-old, whose Killarney form with recent Punchestown Grade 3 winner Embittered made him attractively handicapped off 130.

"It was a nice pot," said Byrnes. "He was unlucky [when unseating while running well] at Listowel last time but it was just one of those things.

"The handicapper gave him a fair chance. I'd say two-mile chases will be his job and good to soft is ideal. Sean is going very well – he's a great rider."

O'Regan shines

Denis O'Regan pulled off the most unlikely of victories on She'stherightone, trained by Denis Cullen, in the 3m handicap hurdle when defying an in-running high of 929-1 on the Betfair Exchange.

Sent off at 14-1, the mare looked out of contention for most of the journey before flashing home to gun down 2-1 favourite Lord Gillygooley.

"She has to be ridden very delicately early on and I thought they went a good gallop without going crazy," said O'Regan.

"I accepted that maybe I'd be placed turning in but she got going from the last, which isn't the first time she's done that.

"She isn't easy but Denis Cullen has done a great job with her. I put the head down late on and hoped for the best. Thankfully, the line stayed far enough away from me that I got there."

McGrath and Power at the double

It was a memorable afternoon for trainer Roger McGrath and jockey Ian Power as the pair doubled up to strike with their only two runners.

Sweet Street, carrying the colours of John Motherway, started the brace when doubling her career tally with a strong-staying performance in the 3m novice hurdle.

"She's an honest homebred owned by my father-in-law and is probably improving a little every day," said McGrath.

"She has the option of going to Down Royal for a Grade 3 mares' novice hurdle or coming back here against the geldings in a fortnight."

A gutsy display from More Wine Lilly for the Connery Family Syndicate in the 2m3f handicap hurdle completed the 47-1 double for the trainer-jockey combination.

Busselton obliges in match

Bleu Berry's absence removed plenty of the intrigue from the 2m4f novice chase and it was left to Busselton, trained by Joseph O'Brien, to come home well clear of his only other rival, Coach Carter.

Placed in Grade 1 and Grade 2 company behind Quilixios and Zanahiyr last season, it was the 1-3 favourite's second win from five starts over fences.

Tynan on top again

Tipperary-based trainer Matty Tynan saddled his first winner in five years when Chicago Time dug to deep to land a deserved win in the opening 2m4½f auction maiden hurdle.
