Living In The Past makes all to upset Liberty Beach in the Lowther

The front-running Living In The Past gave the crack team of Karl Burke and Danny Tudhope victory in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes, the opening race on day two of the Ebor festival.

The winner was sent off at 12-1 and was not for catching after breaking smartly and making all from stall one.

Speaking to ITV Racing, Tudhope said: "She's got a lot of natural ability. She got into a nice rhythm and put it to bed at halfway."

The 15-8 favourite Liberty Beach, having previously raced over only five furlongs, stayed on well in second under Jason Hart but could only get within three-quarters of a length of the winner, with the David Evans-trained Good Vibes back in third.

Winning owner Steve Parkin, who won the Lowther in 2012 with Rosdhu Queen, told ITV Racing: "Seven years ago I won this race and then two days later my dad died. It's a poignant win for sure."

Paddy Power were impressed enough to give the winner a price of 33-1 for next year's Commonwealth Cup.

Karl Burke told Racing TV: "We said to Danny to let her flow without asking her and if she ended up in front that was fine. She got a lovely soft lead. It's a great result for everybody."
