'It's worked out well' - Tom Marquand delivers for the Kublers as part of double

Tom Marquand was identified by Daniel and Claire Kubler as the perfect man to steer Seneca Chief to a second win of the season and their faith was rewarded as the 100-30 shot duly obliged in the 5f handicap by half a length.

Speaking after Marquand had ridden his first winner for the Lambourn-based pair, Daniel said: "With the one-meeting thing we’ve been very focused on having the best available.

"When I looked and saw he had four or five rides and he was spare in this race I thought that’s the best available today, so it's worked out well."

Marquand completed a double on the day in the 1m handicap on a more familiar companion. Marquand was on the William Haggas-trained Kettle Hill when touched off at York and Ripon on his last two starts but was not to be denied on this occasion, making it third time lucky to win by half a length.

50 up for Dawson

Ray Dawson brought up a half-century of winners for the year in style with an enterprising front-running ride on the Heather Main-trained Marshal Dan in the feature 7f handicap.

Dawson set perfect sectionals to hold off the late surge of the John and Thady Gosden-trained Al Rufaa, who stayed on from the back under Robert Havlin to be denied by three-quarters of a length.

Strawbridge strikes again

Havlin could take consolation he had already landed the fillies’ mile novice stakes for the Gosdens with odds-on favourite Natasha.

The winner could be another exciting filly for owner George Strawbridge, who has enjoyed a productive couple of days after Free Wind’s Group 2 Park Hill Stakes success at Doncaster on Thursday.
