Racing is about dynasties. Those training families whose names have echoed down generations of skylark-themed early mornings, high hopes and the disappointments horses inflict on those who love and nurture them.

Royal Ascot is about dynasties of a different and regal stripe tracing back to the early years of the 1700s when Queen Anne bossed out the order that the heath should be cleared for the diversion of the great but not necessarily flawless.

But on Tuesday the meeting was happily grabbed, neck scruff and all, by a racing family of whom we can all be proud.
