'It'd mean everything' - Dave Lowe targeting Kachy Stakes with Caroline Dale
Monday: Southwell
Owner-breeder Dave Lowe is dreaming of capturing the race named in honour of his beloved sprinter Kachy after his homebred filly Caroline Dale landed the feature 5f handicap under Laura Pearson.
Trained by Dave Loughnane, the four-year-old showed no signs of rustiness on her first start since a wind operation to score comfortably at 12-1.
A delighted Lowe said: "It's absolutely superb. We thought she might need the race actually. The plan was to come here and hopefully run well, but she did more than that. She's had the wind op and the guy who did the operation said she should improve 10lb. We couldn't believe it as she's already rated in the high-90s."
A tilt at the Listed Kachy Stakes, formerly known as the Cleves Stakes but renamed in honour of Kachy – who won the race in 2018 and 2019 for the Lowe family, setting course records in the process – at Lingfield on February 5 is now likely.
Lowe added: "It's a great race to go for with the history of Kachy and everything. We came so close when Fizzy Feet just got pipped last year, so it would be nice to go back with a live chance again. It would mean everything.
"We bred her ourselves so that's always extra special. She's named after my wife Janet's mum, who sadly passed away the day Caroline Dale was born. It's a lovely story."
Wheatley closes in
Apprentice Zak Wheatley edged closer to a personal landmark as he made his first ride aboard the John Wainwright-trained Tantastic in the 5f novice stakes a winning one.
The victory moved Wheatley, who is based with Declan Carroll, on to 19 winners, one short of riding out his 7lb claim.
