'I'm in shock, it's unbelievable' - Casilli wins Coconut Cup for joyous Easterby
Saturday: Beverley
Mick Easterby could not hide his joy after Casilli shouldered top weight to land the feature William Hill Coconut Cup, with the trainer stating that he was "in shock" at the 9-1 winner's success.
The five-year-old added a fifth victory from her eighth start at the track, rattling down the outside under Cam Hardie to strike by a length and a quarter.
Easterby, who trains with son David, said: "It was marvellous, wasn't it? Carrying 10st 2lb is unbelievable, I'm in shock, it's unbelievable.
"When I bought her nobody wanted her, they said she was too small. They're never too small, it's just how they're made. She's got a few more [wins] in her, she enjoys her racing."
Cosy Coco
Coco Jack recorded his second career win in the 7½f novice stakes, giving weight and a beating to Exposed, a filly from the red-hot William Haggas yard.
The juvenile made all under Ben Curtis and pulled two and a half lengths clear for trainer George Scott.
Curtis said: "He's progressed with every run and I thought that was an impressive performance under a penalty. The further he goes, the better. Staying will be his forte, he was a consummate professional out there today and he'll be exciting going forward."
Quickfire double
It was a good day for Graham Lee, who rode winners in back to back races on the card.
Lee partnered the Bryan Smart-trained Secret Guest to a first juvenile success in the 5f maiden before taking the 5f handicap aboard Ventura Express for Paul Midgley.
