Friday: Doncaster

Henry Oliver’s week got even better after Coastguard Station provided the trainer with a third win in five days.

The six-year-old landed the 2m½f handicap chase when finishing seven lengths clear of Fusain, and Oliver had nothing but praise for the son of Dylan Thomas.

He said: "He was class. He's a proper horse and Denis O’Regan told me he’d be a nice one for us.

"He couldn’t have done it any better. It’s a Grade 1 track with big fences and he jumped well all the way through. He went to the first fence and was really brave; it’s what we like to see in good horses."

Oliver, who recently moved yards from Abberley to Kinnersley, Worcestershire, praised the support of fellow trainer John Spearing after landing his seventh winner of the season.

He added: "We moved because it wasn’t working for me towards the end as the surface of the gallops was changed. The owner and people were lovely, but we had to move.

"I only have 11 licence boxes, but John [Spearing] has kindly helped me as I was running out of places to go to. Without him I probably wouldn’t be ticking away, and that’s what we’re trying to do because we've some nice horses and it’s what we get up every day for."

Double hit

Caius Marcius landed the first leg of a double for trainer Nicky Richards when winning the opening 3m½f handicap hurdle. This was followed by Everyday Champagne in the 3m handicap chase on his seasonal reappearance.

Record extends

The Donald McCain-trained Mackenberg extended his unbeaten chase record to five when striking in the feature 2m3f handicap chase.
