It was a great day for local owner Gerry McGladery. Not only did he land the feature £31,400 handicap hurdle with Normal Norman, but he then completed a double with Elmono in the concluding 3m handicap chase.

Normal Norman, who is trained in Newmarket by John Ryan, is a progressive young hurdler who won two bumpers last season before scoring for the first time over jumps a couple of months ago at Market Rasen.

Following a sound effort in a well-contested novice handicap at Cheltenham last month, he was fancied to land this prestigious prize and was backed accordingly into 8-1 from 14-1 on course.
