John Gosden described it as an outstanding day for British racing after victory for the Japanese-trained Deirdre in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood followed the landmark success for Khadijah Mellah in the Magnolia Cup.

After training the winners of the Goodwood Cup and Sussex Stakes on the opening two days of the meeting Gosden had to settle for second best when Mehdaayih was outgunned by Deirdre in the Nassau.

But his disappointment was tempered by the identity of the Oisin Murphy-ridden winner.
