An eventful first week back for jockey Richard Kingscote included rides each day and a lucky escape in the car but he started the second week in the best style with a 9,593-1 four-timer at Haydock on Monday afternoon.

The first two races went the way of Kingscote with the Tom Dascombe-trained Lauded introduced into the Coventry Stakes market at a best price 14-1 with William Hill after making all to score by four and a half lengths in the 6f novice, followed by stablemate Brad The Brief taking his record to four wins from five starts with a half-length triumph in the 6f three-year-old handicap.

Kingscote sealed a treble aboard 40-1 shot Ishvara for Robert Cowell in division two of the 5f handicap before striking for a fourth time aboard veteran handicapper Shady McCoy for Ian Williams in the 7f handicap.

The rider was fortunately unscathed last Thursday after crashing his car in the rain on the way back from Newcastle.

Kingscote, who has previously ridden a four-timer at the Merseyside track, said: "I'm absolutely fine after the crash and was very lucky. I just hit some water, the car lost it and off I went."

On his fantastic four-timer, he added: "It's been a good day! Lauded was very professional and I was really pleased with him. From what we've seen that's ran, and what he's done today, he ought to be going to Ascot.

"Brad The Brief was on and off the bridle a little bit but always felt like he'd get there. Ishvara toughed it out well and has a good attitude, while Shady McCoy was a good horse in his day and retains plenty of ability."

Kingscote punter wins €18,000

Kingscote's impressive feat nearly spelled disaster for bookmakers Coral after a Dublin-based customer placed a series of bets on the jockey's rides.

The punter turned an initial €200 stake into €18,000 and David Stevens, head of Coral PR, said: "Richard Kingscote always rides Haydock well, and that may well have prompted this punter to place the multiple bets – each-way doubles, trebles and upwards to seven-folds – on his mounts today, and after the first couple went in we began to take a much closer interest in events on Merseyside.

"When two became four winners, we weren't quite in Frankie Dettori territory, but it was nerve-racking enough for a quiet Monday afternoon, and although one of the selections was a non-runner, six winners would have landed a mighty jackpot for this Kingscote fan."
