Equiano Springs stars again on Rowley Mile with third win in sprint handicap

Equiano Springs and Tom Queally lit up the first meeting of the autumn back on the Rowley Mile with a superb third win in the 6f handicap.

Tom Tate's eight-year-old, who also took the prize in 2019 and 2021, is already pencilled in for another crack after coming through to win the latest running on the bridle.

Equiano Springs was the only one hard on the steel at the Bushes and was soon back on it passing the post.

Queally said: "It's probably the best feel he's given me and I've won on him quite a few times. He loves it here. He does more for taking a pull on him rather than giving him a kick, which is why I kept filling him up. He's tailor-made for this track as it sets him up for coming up the hill. I couldn't pull him up."

Davies shines in front

Star apprentice Harry Davies hit 50 winners for the season when making all on Rajinsky on his first ride over the entire Beacon course in the Turners Cesarewitch Trial.

The Hugo Palmer-trained winner was cut to 14-1 (from 25) for the Cesarewitch on October 8 but is only a possible runner in a race where he finished sixth last year.

With no obvious front-runner in the field, Davies seized the initiative on the topweight and it proved a race-winning move. His mount got into a good rhythm and had the guts to repel Prince Imperial in a driving finish.

Palmer was full of praise for Davies. “To make all as an apprentice over the two and a quarter miles was an extraordinary riding feat," he said.

Theory spot on for Muscutt

Danny Muscutt got 50 up for the season and moved just one shy of 100 for the year when steering Value Theory home under top weight in the 1m2f fillies' handicap.

Charlie and Mark Johnston's three-year-old fired out of the Dip to back up last month's win at Ripon.

Johnston snr said: "We've used Danny and a few other jockeys since Joe Fanning has been injured and he gave Value Theory a nice ride."

Six on the bounce for Crouch

Hector Crouch registered a remarkable sixth straight winner when Trust The Stars scored at the first time of asking in the opening mile novice for juvenile fillies.

The jockey began his winning run with a double at Pontefract on Thursday, topped that with a treble at Kempton on Friday and stayed in the groove when steering the daughter of Sea The Stars home from previous winner Chelsea Green.

Winning trainer Ralph Beckett introduced a promising juvenile for owners Valmont at the final meeting on the July course last month in the shape of Lose Yourself and Trust The Stars looks a similar type.

Crouch said: "The ground was as quick as she'd want it but she's a nice prospect, especially for next year when she fills into her frame."

The jockey's winning run was broken when he was second on Eidikos in the next race and he was out of luck on the rest of the card.
