Brilliant News just the ticket for Richard Hughes and nephew David Egan
Richard Hughes is excited for what the rest of the season holds for his team of juveniles after Brilliant News powered to victory in the 6f novice under the trainer's nephew David Egan.
The son of Camacho made his first turf start a winning one to score by a length and three-quarters under a stylish drive from Egan in testing conditions, a ride reminiscent of the classic Hughes poise from his days in the saddle.
Hughes said: "It's good to see him ride like me! He grabbed that rail quickly, which really helped. We have a nice bunch of two-year-olds this year and they're all going well.
"He's done that really well. He was working on heavy ground in the spring so I was more than happy for him to take his chance today."
Egan doubled up on the day when Haveoneyerself won the 5f handicap.
Fandango ends losing run
Tin Fandango ended more than two years without success and recorded just his second victory with a wide-margin win in the 2m½f handicap.
The six-year-old's previous strike came at the Surrey track in April 2019 but he ended that barren spell in fine style with an 11-length verdict under Ellie MacKenzie, who was enjoying her third winner of the season.
Noble not stopping
Cameron Noble continued his fine run thanks to Makinitup's narrow victory in the 7f fillies' maiden, which provided him with a fourth winner from his last 15 rides.
