There was the breadth of the Irish Sea between them on Saturday and the task each faced was almost as wide apart.

Yet when you get young chasers as exciting as Bob Olinger and Bravemansgame, nobody should be surprised when their performances are carefully scrutinised, analysed and compared: are they going to be as good over fences as we thought/hoped/dreamed?

Bob Olinger had proved 12 lengths the better when the pair clashed in the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, powering home and showing he had the sort of engine that might have made him a serious Champion Hurdle contender had a chasing career been put on hold.
