An heir apparent? Arrest announces himself as possible star for Gosdens

On the day Stradivarius' was retired, John and Thady Gosden may have unearthed a possible star for the future when Arrest cruised to an impressive victory in the mile novice.

Having been prominent throughout and his rivals unable to land a blow, the son of Frankel made it two wins from three career starts with an easy five-and-a-half-length success under Rab Havlin.

Havlin told Sky Sports Racing: "We brought him down here to get some confidence and it was well-achieved. He’s a nice looking horse, he travelled well, got on a good leg and found more."

Havlin also reminisced about Stradivarius, who he partnered on his racecourse debut at Nottingham nearly six years to the day.

He added: "It's sad to see him go, but nothing can run forever. He still gave everybody a thrill right to the end.

"He's a tough, tough horse and everyone loved him. Even when he got beat he got cheered in. He was a true champion, a people’s champion."

Bouncing back

Fawn At Play upset the odds when taking the mile handicap for Stuart Kittow at 28-1, banishing the memories of her previous run over course-and-distance which resulted in a last-place finish.

She was pushed along three furlongs out, but made her challenge and went well-clear from San Fransisco Bay and Captain Sedgwick in fine style.
