With The Moonlight delivers Frankel 800th winner as a sire
Frankel has some way to go to match his record-breaking achievements on the track but he notched a landmark 800th worldwide winner as a sire following With The Moonlight's gritty success in the mile juvenile fillies' maiden.
The superstar has produced plenty of high-class progeny since retiring in 2012 – including this year's brilliant three-year-olds Adayar and Hurricane Lane – and landed the achievement with another Charlie Appleby-trained runner, who like that star pair is also owned by Godolphin.
Appleby's assistant trainer Alex Merriam said: "We've had a lot of Frankels over the last couple of years, the results definitely speak for themselves with great success. His progeny are a fairly mixed bag in all shapes and sizes. They're versatile and quite a differing bunch.
"She got the job done nicely and I think the mile trip suited her. She's learnt from her first run, we're really pleased. I'm not sure where she'll go next as I've not spoken to Charlie yet, we'll have to wait and see what he wants to do."
Merriam reported Adayar and Hurricane Lane to be in fine fettle since their victories in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes and Grand Prix de Paris respectively ahead of a busy big-race campaign for the duo.
"They're in good form and ticking over as their next main targets aren't until September," he added. "It's not been finalised yet but the plan at the moment is the Prix Niel before the Arc with Adayar and Hurricane Lane for the St Leger. It's an exciting time."
With The Moonlight's success was the first leg of a double for Godolphin after Raeeb held on for a narrow victory in the feature 5f handicap.
Probert nearing century
The in-form David Probert edged closer to bringing up a century of winners in a memorable year with a double of his own on the card.
The Welsh jockey – who celebrated a first Royal Ascot winner on Sandrine in the Albany Stakes in June – guided Imagine Freedom to a first success in the 7f maiden before Excellent George ended a three-year losing streak in the 6f handicap to take him to 95 winners in 2021.
"It's been a great year, I'm taking every day as it comes," he said. "I've been very lucky the last couple of weeks that everything has been going very nicely. Fingers crossed it can continue."
Back to his best
A return to the Essex track proved to be the change of luck Rhubarb Bikini needed as he recorded a second course-and-distance victory in the mile handicap under a fine front-running ride by Rab Havlin.
Winning trainer Michael Attwater said: "Rab's a good friend of mine and I use him as much as I can, he's top class. I said to him 'do not get headed and he'll gallop through the line', but it was never in doubt!"
Up and down for Dawson
Ray Dawson edged to within one win of equalling his personal-best tally of 33 winners in a year aboard Nibras Gold in the 1m6f handicap, but his celebrations were dampened after receiving a two-day ban for careless riding.
