'We might work back from the Oaks' - Walker sees potential with Perfect Prophet
Tuesday: Kempton
Ed Walker believes he may have unearthed an Oaks filly in Perfect Prophet and aims to take his time with her.
The daughter of dual Group 1 winner Nathaniel was stepping up to a mile for the first time, having finished seventh over seven furlongs on her debut at Newbury, and was rewarded when pulling a neck clear of Dowally in the fillies' novice.
Although it is early days in her career, Walker has already discussed the possibility of bigger targets.
Walker said: “For me, she’s all about next year, and we might even work back from the Oaks. She has beaten some highly regarded horses there and I think she’ll be a smart filly.
“We might have a go at the Montrose at Newmarket, which we won with Kawida last year, but I don’t think we’ll aim higher this year as we want to build her up to be a potential Oaks filly next year. She could be one for the Lingfield Oaks Trial, but I’m in no rush.
“She’ll come into her own over a longer trip, but she showed a great attitude and stuck it out well because I thought she’d get beat by the faster fillies.”
Walker and jockey Ross Coakley doubled up on the day when Tidal Storm took the 1m4f handicap.
Crowley in clover
Jim Crowley geared up for his ride on Baaeed in the Juddmonte International at York on Wednesday by landing a double on Tuesday.
My Mate Ted won the mile handicap, while the Charlie Hills-trained Maghlaak justified favouritism in the mile novice.
