Tuesday: Brighton

The evergreen Boom The Groom finally gained an elusive win at the seaside track with a popular success in the opening 6f handicap.

The 11-year-old, who had hit the frame five times from six previous starts at the Sussex track, was a winner at Glorious Goodwood and at York's Ebor meeting in 2016, but he ended an 18-month wait for a victory with a length-and-a-quarter success under Luke Morris.

Winning trainer Tony Carroll said: "At his age, that was a super performance. Every winner we have is special, but it's nice to see him continue to do well in later life. He's been with us a long time and we've enjoyed many successes.

"It's wonderful to see him still going so well and if you look at him, he's in great shape. He's always enjoyed his life, long may it continue."

The Brian Millen-owned sprinter took his prize-money past £250,000 on his 98th career start, and he will be joining the 100 Club before too long.

"When people ask me who I have running, I say it's the pensioner!" the owner said on Sky Sports Racing. "He's still full of it and is a bit of a devil. Everybody loves him, he's just amazing."

First for Freddie

Freddie Gordon celebrated his first winner on the Flat when Psyche took the 1m4f amateur jockeys' handicap.

Psyche is trained by the rider's father Chris, with the amateur taking his final GCSE exam later this week.

"I hope school didn't see that," he joked following the win.
