Summer Hurdle under consideration for Newland's progressive novice Wicked West
Wicked West appears to be an exciting prospect for Richard Newland after landing back-to-back wins for his new yard.
The five-year-old justified evens favouritism to land an easy victory under Sam Twiston-Davies, following up on an impressive 14-length success at Ffos Las last month.
Newland said: "It was a really nice performance and he’s got a good attitude and really wants to please.
"He was very good at Ffos Las, I wasn’t expecting him to be as impressive as he was there, but we didn’t quite know what we’d beaten, and I think there was a bit more substance to today’s race, so I was really pleased with him."
On future plans, Newland added: "We’re going to consider him for the Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen, and then perhaps a holiday.
"He jumps beautifully and I think he’ll be a nice chaser in time, so figuring out what to do with him is a nice problem to have."
Family fortune
Siannes Star secured back-to-back wins for Charles and Adam Pogson to give the father-son team another local success.
The eight-year-old followed up victory at the track two weeks ago with a comfortable win under Brian Hughes in the 2m4½f handicap chase.
Both of the Pogsons’ wins this season have come thanks to Hughes and Siannes Star, with the yard based only half an hour away from Southwell.
