Sassy Rascal swoops late to continue George Boughey's red-hot form
Fast finishers thrive on Lingfield's all-weather surface and Sassy Rascal's nightmare run turned into a dream with a last-to-first success under a terrific ride from William Buick to continue trainer George Boughey's red-hot form.
The two-year-old missed the break in the 5f novice and was anchored at the rear of the field by Buick but flew late to win by a neck in a three-way photo-finish.
Her success was a sixth winner from just 14 runners for Boughey in the last nine days, continuing a career-best season for the Newmarket trainer with 63 winners.
"She's got a turn of foot and it might have been overexaggerated tactics, but I wanted William to drop in and use that," Boughey said. "He's riding out of his skin at the moment. He's a top man who always rides really well for us.
"We've always liked her and she was only beaten by seven lengths in a Group 3 previously. She's a good filly."
Sassy Rascal completed a double for Buick following Ocean Wave's victory in the 1m2f fillies' handicap.
Perfect track and trip
Arabescato showed his liking for the track when narrowly prevailing in the 2m handicap.
The four-year-old won over course and distance in February on his final start for Nick Littmoden and picked up a second success for new trainer John Butler with a last-gasp lunge to score by a short head.
Back in the groove
Michael Attwater took his name off the cold trainers list with a first winner for 22 days when Nordic Glory landed a shock success at 33-1 in the 5f nursery.
