Ed Dunlop recorded just his second winner in five years at Carlisle when Verreaux Eagle justified a 542-mile round trip in the 6f novice.

The 4-7 favourite, who finished second to Listed winner Bellosa on her second start at Newmarket's Craven meeting in April, jumped well from her low draw and virtually made all under Kevin Stott.

"The plan was to get her head in front after she placed in a couple of maidens," said Dunlop. "I'm delighted for her owners Cayton Park Stud, who have had horses with me for a long time. It's important for them that she's a winner and hopefully she can improve again."

Gambles landed

Langholm recorded his first win since joining trainer Michael Dods when landing a big pre-Royal Ascot gamble in the 6f handicap.

The five-year-old was backed into 6-4 favouritism (from 7-2) on Monday morning and did not see another rival when making all under Connor Beasley. It was his first success since July 2019.

Claimer Joanna Mason registered her first win at the track in more than 13 years when Betty Grable, who was backed into 5-2 (from 8-1) finished clear of Iolani to claim the 1m3f handicap for Wilf Storey.
