Oscar Rose will always have her place in the history of Fergal O’Brien’s Ravenswell Farm yard and cemented her popularity with victory in the feature 2m4f handicap chase under conditional Liam Harrison.

Oscar Rose was the outsider of three but defied market expectations to score by five and a half lengths.

The talented mare brought up a first century for O’Brien at Kempton last season and was the trainer’s first winner from his new base at Southwell two years ago.

O’Brien said: “She’s been a phenomenal mare for us and her groom Becky deserves a lot of the credit. Oscar Rose isn’t the easiest and Becky does a great job in keeping her settled and took her up to Perth this weekend.

“Going right-handed and nice ground is key to her. She’s so tough and we’ve had her since the age of three. She’s competing with Lord P, who gave my daughter Fern her first winner, in the popularity stakes.”

Harrison makes the journey from Britain's most northerly to most southerly track, riding stablemate Our Colossus in the opening novice hurdle at Newton Abbot on Monday.

British breakthrough

Amateur Shane Fenelon rode his first winner in Britain aboard the Shark Hanlon-trained Dalileo in the 2m4f handicap hurdle.

Fenelon has enjoyed nine winners across the last three seasons in Ireland and steered Dalileo to victory by four and a quarter lengths.

County Limerick trainer Patrick Neville struck in the 2m handicap hurdle with the Kevin Brogan-ridden Go Fox, five days on from finishing third at Hexham.
